Gerade die frischgehäuteten weißen Larven sind bei den Vögeln sehr begehrt. Der Fettanteil von Mehlwürmern ist sehr hoch. Vor dem Verfüttern sollten die Mehlwürmer ein paar Tage Vitaminreich ernährt werden, wie z.B. Äpfel, Karotten, die natürlich unbehandelt sein sollten.
